Very helpful if you're thinking of getting into the subscription box business!

I've been thinking about starting a subscription box business but have held back because I assumed it was a passing fad. This book was awesome, actually, because it addresses that fear and gives you a couple of ways you can make your company more sustainable as people's interests change. The fact that it's based on real interviews with box owners was helpful. Most useful were the formulas on how to calculate subscriber churn rate, etc. I would recommend this book for that detailed information alone.

Extremely clear and engaging explanation about the nuts and bolts of subscription box companies. I'm not looking to be in the business of starting such a thing, but from a "here's how things work", the book was filled with a ton of facts, instructions, and advice from successful entrepreneurs in this space.

This book is based on Williamson's discovery of A Course in Miracles , a self-help guide whose provenance she doesn't explain. Age 26 at the time and feeling lost and desperate after indulging in the excesses of the 1960s, the Jewish author had no real hope for inspiration from the course because of its Christian terminology. But, she writes in this guide to the guide, the program works "miracles" for herself and for others who adopt its principles. Her extrapolations may appeal to readers in need of spiritual sustenance, but one questions Williamson's advice to the gravely ill. When she encourages them, for example, to "write a letter to AIDS or cancer or whatever illness they might have, and tell it everything they feel"--even to fabricate "replies" from the disease--readers are likely to consider that a serious situation is trivialized. Williamson is founder and president of the Los Angeles and Manhattan Center for Living, a support service. BOMC alternate; author tour.

Make a change in your life simply by willing it to happen!

I had been in a dead end relationship for a good number of years. I wanted to keep it going but the other side of me wanted to just end the relationship. I hoped and prayed that one day the relationship would cease to exist. It was then that I came across the is wonderful book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles. I quickly took to it and thought that all these years I had the power all along to end the unhappiness that I had been experiencing. I was so relieved yet happy to know that the universe was not in charge of me changing but instead it was all in my hands to make the needed changes.

Soon after reading this book, I came along to the other book called Manifestation Magic: Attracting Abundant Wealth, Incredible Health, Great Relationships, and Limitless Success Into Your Life. This book was a lot more in detail about the various things that we are able to change and turn around in our lives. The biggest of these is that we actually have the power to reverse illness. This concept totally blew my mind and made me wonder what else I had been missing out on in life. The power is within all of us and after reading this book, I was quickly able to see ways that we are able to affect the course of our life on a regular basis.

While these books alone can give you a lot of insight, these two together help to unlock the whole mystery that is set in front of a person. Regardless of what the real secret is that unlocks all of the mysteries of life, you need to just know that the answer is a lot closer than you might expect it to be.

Great book for our times. How we can change our lives by loving ourselves and others who are here to learn and to experience this world just as we are. By trusting in a Higher Power that created and manages universes to create and manage a new improved life for us. By surrendering our manic control of which we have very little of anyway, and focusing (remembering) on what we really do have control over, our attention. Returning our attention to each other with consideration, compassion, understanding, (as we would want for ourselves) and most of all, with the most powerful and beautiful force that exists, Love.

Felt slightly outdated but the concepts opened my mind to start reading more into the laws of attraction. Recommend newer books like deliberate receiving finally the universe makes from freaking sense. But this isn't a bad first read into the laws of attraction. She opens saying how she was weird & unloved & I now feel bad for saying its outdated - I think she has done newer stuff I'll check out :)

Good introduction to SJM ideas

Books such as S Gurumurthys "India's Time has Come" are much needed but unfortunately too few in my opinion. While major economies in the west have had the benefit of watchful writers and thinkers commenting on economic principles/trends, India has had the misfortune of having a very vast number of intellectuals and economists who have blindly toed the western thought process and not given due consideration to the very specific Indian scenario. This is why "India's Time has Come" stands out with its bold commentaries on Indian economy, family, behaviours and government policies.
The book starts out with 6 brief chapters on the glaring problems affecting the Western model of economics. I found the chapters on the US Fed, bankrupting households and the forex fraud to be most illuminating. Admittedly, for a untrained reader on economics (I am an engineer by profession), I found the going a little rough on a couple of chapters but nothing to put off a person with a casual interest in these matters. The chapters are concise and supply plenty of information and ideas.
The remainder of the book has a number of brief chapters covering a subject of very vast scope. The chapters are more like essays put together with topics including and not limited to FDI, government interference in family, economic and social importance of family, state of farming in india, Nandigram, State suppport to industries, Swadeshi concept etc. Needless to say, a 136 page book cannot do justice to the topics being covered. The ideas in each of the chapters are quite fascinating and many need further study and research. One of the things that makes this book so interesting is that it runs contrary to the policies being followed right now in most parts of the world. This book might be the first hint of the pendulum starting its swing the other way.
"India's Time has Come" plugs a hole in the study of India. Indias urbanites being cut off from the realities of rural life will be well advised to read this book to understand some of the economic difficulties facing our rural citizens. Individuals like myself, who having read up on countless books dealing with the western model, will be excited to note that finally there is a book that deals with the specifics of the indian situation. Having said that, i do hope Sri S Gurumurthy and SJM will come out with more such publications to educate the deracinated urban elite of India.
There are some editing errors, that can be corrected. The author speaks of Alan Greenspan and his usage of the phrase "irrational exhuberance" with reference to the Nikkei index. The dates mentioned for this are in contradiction between pg16 and 12. Also the book has absolutely no references. A list of books for further reading would have been beneficial, although i suspect there are very few such publications out in the market right now.
Overall, i would have rated 5 stars if not for the above minor issues. Looking forward to more from S Gurumurthy on this topic. This book has a "Buy" suggestion from me.

Intenta ser inspirador, aporta tips útiles.

El libro es una sumatorias de posteos de un blog, asi al menos lo indica su autor.
Busca ser inspirador, cosa que al menos en mi caso logra en escasos parrafos.
Las experiencias de Malasya y Thailandia se describen con detalle, los cuales parecen haber cansado al escritor en el resto del viaje.....igualmente son los pasajes de mayor interes de su relato.
Existen cambios importantes en al redaccion del libro que desconciertan.
Si se pretende hacer un viaje similar al realizado por el autor no estará de más leerlo (el libro se lee fácil) y no era necesario los recursos al ingles a los que se adhiere en algunas páginas.
Finalmente, se pudo decir lo mismo en un 50% de las paginas escritas.

The riddle of creation explored by a scientist

Robert Jastrow is an astronomer and, while he covers rather deep subjects like the Big Bang and theories of expanding universes, he never talks down to his readers. The most famous excerpt from this book has to be the anecdote about scientists scaling the "mountains of ignorance" and finding, at the summit, a band of theologians who have been sitting their for centuries. It's fitting, considering that the Big Bang theory seems to echo the Genesis creation story. The book was published in the mid-1970s so it's obviously not the most current astronomical book out there, but it's still a fascinating read.

DID THEOLOGIANS AND THE BOOK OF GENESIS ARRIVE AT THE TRUTH BEFORE SCIENCE DID?

Robert Jastrow (1925-2008) was an American astronomer, physicist and cosmologist. He wrote many popular books, such as Red Giants and White Dwarfs, Until the Sun Dies, The Enchanted Loom, etc.

He wrote in the first chapter of this 1978 book, "When an astronomer writes about God, his colleagues assume he is either over the hill or going bonkers. In my case it should be understood from the start that I am an agnostic in religious matters. However, I am fascinated by some strange developments going on in astronomy---partly because of their religious implications and partly because of the peculiar reactions of my colleagues. The essence of the strange developments is that the Universe had, in some sense, a beginning... and under circumstances that seem to make it impossible ... to find out what force or forces brought the world into being at that moment." (Pg. 11-12)

He adds, "The details differ, but the essential elements in the astronomical and biblical accounts of Genesis are the same: the chain of events leading to man commenced suddenly and sharply at a definite moment in time, in a flash of light and energy. Some scientists are unhappy with the idea that the world began in this way..." (Pg. 14)

He observes, "Now three lines of evidence---the motions of the galaxies, the laws of thermodynamics, and the life story of the stars---pointed to one conclusion; all indicated that the Universe had a beginning." (Pg. 111) He adds, "In fact, some prominent scientists began to feel the same irritation over the expanding Universe that Einstein had expressed earlier... There is a strange ring of feeling and emotion in these reactions. They come from the heart, whereas you would expect that judgments to come from the brain. Why? I think part of the answer is that scientists cannot bear the thought of a natural phenomenon which cannot be explained... There is a kind of religion in science... This religious faith of the scientist is violated by the discovery that the world had a beginning..." (Pg. 113)

He concludes, "The scientist's pursuit of the past ends in the moment of creation. This is an exceedingly strange development, unexpected by all but the theologians. They have always accepted the word of the Bible: in the beginning God created heaven and earth... For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He had scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries." (Pg. 115-116)

Certainly, this book's "history" is not current (it's more than 35 years old, after all). But it is Jastrow's comments and conclusions that will attract most readers---who can easily look elsewhere for a "history of Big Bang cosmology."
