About the Author
Mark Leach is a professional artist who has painted landscapes for over 20 years and has won many major awards for his work. His paintings are exhibited in London, the UK and Europe, and are held in both private and corporate collections worldwide. He contributes to and has been featured in numerous art magazines, is a member of the Federation of British Artists and is Honorary Treasurer of the Pastel Society. Mark is from near Rye, Sussex. Angie Patchell has been editing and creating art books and magazines for over 15 years. In 1995 she founded emergingART, a database of talented artists, which is now an online gallery.

An exciting approach to colour, a lot to learn for an amateur artist

Leach definitely has a way with colour. There are some great examples here of what would otherwise be counterintuitive approaches to colour. I found a lot to learn here which goes far beyond the lessons of the how-to pastel guides. But, as a book to learn from – which is why I ever buy these – it’s not quite as much as I’d expect. This is definitely subjective and perhaps a bit unfair on a great book (besides, you don’t need to buy it as a learning source – buy it for the love of art, it’s different enough for that), but with this book and with others like it – I am always left wanting a bit more range in what is demonstrated in the pages. Still – one of my favourite books of this type.

Love this book!

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I've worked pretty traditionally in pastel for many years, and this book inspires me to try alternative approaches. There's lots of helpful information, as well, and the art makes it fun to pick up & browse from time-to-time.

Beautiful book

This is not so much a how-to book, it's a beautiful presentation of a truly gifted artist's work. As a pastelist I was interested in a different approach to using pastels, rather than the traditional pastoral scenes and landscapes. The artist took pastels to a whole different level and I found the book to be inspiring. What a loss that he died so young. The book is now a collectible item for his fans.
